Have you ever heard this statement? Not from other people, but from your own mind, (mupfungwa dzako iwe dunga munhu). I think many of us have felt this way, let others do it, ndini ndadii or ndakaita pangu. The most popular one is handizvigone, it’s not my area. This usually happens when church elections happen, kuita basa raMwari risina pay usually, but when it’s job promotions or challenges at work we say haa I’ll try my best, I’ll take up the challenge. Could this be because kubasa kune mubhadharo? Hmmm, only you know. Are we so burdened to serve the God who created us, died for us, breaks our chains, who provides for our every need? Today I want us to focus on two men in the bible who felt incapable of doing the tasks they were given. They looked at their physical capabilities and said hazvisi zvangu izvi. But we eventually see them taking up the tasks and bringing some of the most amazing miracles and the truth of God to the people, but in different ways. One ended up being the deliverer of the Israelites, splitting the Red Sea in half to make a way for the children of God, producing water from rock, seeing God, writing the Ten commandments, yes I’m talking about Moses, Moses who was a murderer and a stammerer. Yes, that Moses.
Exodus 4 vs 10-12
But Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor even now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” Then the Lord said to him, “Who gives speech to mortals? Who makes them mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.”
Now we’ve all had moments of fear and doubt, so let’s not be quick to judge Moses. Plus prior to this, no miracles had really occurred; he probably had no idea it could happen. It’s in our human nature to want to give an excuse for what we can’t do and doubt that things could change because that’s what we would have known our whole lives. But the lord’s answer here is interesting, He doesn’t say go figure it out somehow. He tells Moses He is the one who has the power to make the mouth speak and the eyes see. He says I will be with your mouth and teach you what to speak. Remember Jesus telling His disciples that the Holy Spirit would be with them when they had to speak in front of people? God is saying through this scripture, I will give you the words, I will give you the transport, I will give you the funds, I will give you the leadership qualities, and you will see a miracle if you would just trust Me. After what God said, Moses then says,
Exodus 4 vs 13
But he said, “O my Lord, please send someone else.”
Does this sound familiar? If not, let me try and make it familiar for you. Ko mai vaya vanogona zvekubika, ngavaite kaivavo? Ko baba vaye ngavaite kah nhaimi hanti ndomaCEO here? Ko muskana uya wekaFit hanty ndiye anemota ngaite? Ndapota hangu munondibvisa panaMwari mukandipa basa iri? Ko vaya veku choir ngavaimbe kah?, ini ndinongozviimbira hangu naMwari wangu. I just can’t do this. Pamberi pevanhu panotyisa veduwe, makambopamira here imi? Ndakagara ndataura handiiti izvi. Ko vanhu vanozoti chii nhaimi? Aiwa vanhu vanonetsa veduwe. Now I could write an entire book of the types of excuses we give internally and out loud, akawandisa. You will look at everyone else except yourself. But do you know what this is a sign of? Fear. Be honest with yourself, fear of the unknown, of what people will say, of losing your time, of failure. But God has not given us a spirit of fear. Then the Lord replied
Exodus 4 vs 14-17
Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, “What of your brother Aaron, the Levite? I know that he can speak fluently; even now he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you his heart will be glad. You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do. He indeed shall speak for you to the people; he shall serve as a mouth for you, and you shall serve as God for him. Take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs.”
Do you know what this means? Moses had the chance to have a miracle performed on him, to speak for God, but his surrender to his fear than to God robbed him of seeing the Lord’s power for his mouth. Now later he saw and did many miracles because of his obedience and the Lord showed His power through Him.
Jeremiah 1 vs 6-10
Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a boy’; for you shall go to all to whom I send you,
and you shall speak whatever I command you, Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.” Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me, “Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”
Now Jeremiah also had doubts and fear about his physical capabilities, but he let the Lord touch his mouth and bless him with the words to speak. This doesn’t mean Jeremiah was better than Moses or the other way around, but it’s just 2 different scenarios that can show what can happen when we surrender to God instead of our fears. Moses later went on to do many miracles meaning it’s never too late to surrender to God and let Him use you. Great things can be done through you, Yes YOU. It’s not only the preachers, prophets and priests that God uses but anyone. We all have callings in different seasons. Don’t wait for other people to do the work that needs to be done, that you have been chosen to do or are gifted to do. Instead, pray that God makes you strong, and blesses your assignments and work assigned to you. Trust, have faith and you will see miracles. Obedience doesn’t always look good or feel comfortable, but so much comes from it and God requires it from Him, because it’s good for us. You slowly learn to trust and overcome. Don’t be another King Saul. Maybe the blessings you have been praying for are hidden in the task God has given you. Let God use you. Do not be that one servant who chose to hide his talent and it stayed like that, didn’t multiply, did not help anyone. Some have talents that will change the world & lead it to Christ, some that will save/serve their families and the people around them. I’ve been in Moses’s position, but I prayed to God to overcome and overcome I did, that’s why you are reading this today. This message was for you today and make no mistake, God is speaking to you. Question is, what will you do about it?
